What is a rooftop tent and how does it work?

A rooftop tent is a camping tent that mounts directly on top of a pickup truck. It deploys in just a few minutes and allows you to sleep elevated from the ground, protected from moisture, insects, and uneven terrain. Soft shell models fold like an accordion, triangular models have a fixed angled structure, and hard shell models open with a single motion, like a suitcase.

What documents do I need to pick up the vehicle?

You need: (1) a valid driver's license (Chilean or international), (2) the identity document (passport or national ID) you registered when booking, and (3) a payment method for the security deposit. Foreign travelers: if your license is not in Spanish, we recommend bringing an International Driving Permit (IDP).

How much is the security deposit and how does it work?

The security deposit varies by vehicle category. It is paid at pickup and fully refunded at the end of the rental, provided the vehicle is returned in the same condition.

Can I pick up the vehicle in Puerto Montt and return it in Osorno?

At the moment, pickup and return must be at the same location. We are working to enable one-way drop-off as a future option.

What is included in the rental?

The rental includes the 4x4 pickup truck with the rooftop tent installed. The tent comes with a mattress included. It does not include a sleeping bag, pillow, cooking utensils, or food.

Is the tent waterproof?

Yes, all tents in our fleet are designed to withstand rain, wind, and low temperatures — common conditions in southern Chile.

Can I take the truck along the Carretera Austral?

Accepted Answer

The Carretera Austral is entirely within Chile and you can travel it without additional restrictions. To cross into Argentina, prior authorization is required.

What insurance coverage does the vehicle have?

The vehicle has mandatory personal accident insurance (SOAP) and valid third-party liability insurance. See our Insurance & Deposit page for full details.

Can I pay just 50% upfront and the rest at pickup?

Yes. When booking you can choose between paying 50% to secure your reservation (remaining balance due at pickup) or paying the full amount with a discount.

Can I cancel my booking?

Yes, you can cancel. Refund policy: more than 30 days before pickup → 90% refund; 15–30 days → 50% refund; less than 15 days → no refund.

What is the minimum rental period?

The minimum is 2 days for all categories, though this may vary by season.

Does the vehicle come with a GPS?

Yes, all vehicles include GPS. We also recommend downloading offline maps for areas along the Carretera Austral.

Can I drive on gravel roads?

Yes. All our vehicles are 4x4 and are prepared for gravel roads, common along the Carretera Austral.

What is the vehicle pickup process like?

When you arrive, our operator will receive you, review the vehicle's condition, walk you through the equipment, sign the rental agreement, take the deposit, and hand over the keys. The process takes approximately 30–45 minutes.
